So on a Windows computer how do you stop being infected and make it a good experience
- Keep your operating system up to date, Windows updates do not happen by themselves , you need to check – if you are running Windows XP , good luck as it is not supported by Microsoft anymore
- Windows optional updates are sometimes not optional , check and install them
- Keep Java up to date ( if you have it ) , Java updates will remind you , do not ignore them
- Keep your Adobe Reader up to date, Adobe updates may not happen by themselves , you need to check
- Keep your Adobe Flash up to date, Adobe updates may not happen by themselves , you need to check
- Do not click links in emails, if you don’t think it was meant for you it probably wasn’t
- Don’t click ads in browsers and if installing extensions or add-ons in browsers , do some research before installing them , most of the time you will not need them.
- Consider if you need to run as an Administrator , (you don’t ) , think about being a standard user where you need to add in a password to install anything
- Understand that there is no mystery program that will speed up , repair , aid , help , clean your computer
- Make sure you have installed a good antivirus program and scan on a regular basis, it may help you if you have not done any of the above , for a paid one I recommend NOD32 and for any computer running Windows 7 or Vista , Microsoft Security Essentials and remember Windows 8 has it built in with Windows Defender.
