Never Trust A Call From An Unknown Number

Computer Security Tech Advice

Times have changed with almost 40 per cent of scams now committed over the phone and I am seeing people every week that are falling for scams on their computer.

That’s followed by email at 26.5 per cent and text messaging at 15 per cent

So what should you do?

  • Do not respond to numbers supplied in an automated call that you receive or from numbers you don’t recognise
  • Be sceptical and if you’re unsure the person on the end of the phone is not who they say they are, hang up and call the organisation directly on an independently verified number that you have sourced.
  • Don’t return calls to international numbers unless you know them.
  • Don’t pay anything with an iTunes gift card ,  legitimate businesses in Australia are not going to be asked to be paid this way

Don’t give someone who calls you out of the blue :

  • Any money
  • Personal details
  • Access to your computer

If you have let an ” unknown ” organisation / person log onto your computer , you have no idea what they have installed that could leave you vulnerable to losing information on your computer. You will need to get that fixed which is a service I can provide.
