Scams – Lets start getting smart about these , here is a list that could really go on forever
Its not Microsoft , Windows , Telstra , NBN ringing you
The tax office is not chasing you
You were not involved in an accident
You have not won any money
If you send me $4000 you can get $100,000 back – the advance fee scam
Richard is stuck overseas and has been robbed can you send him money
Anything to do with Western Union
Fake charities calling you
Dating – online websites – meet a woman – see a picture – send her money
Then there are the SMS scams
You have not won a gift card from a retailer – via SMS
There is nothing wrong with your Apple ID – via SMS
Your password at the bank is wrong – via SMS
Your Netflix will be cut off – via SMS
So what do you need to do ?
Hang up – they will try and talk you into it
Don’t respond to numbers supplied in an automated call
Delete any messages left on voicemail
Speak to someone you trust about the scam call
Never provide the caller with any personal information.
Don’t give out your passwords or allow anyone to access your computer remotely.
Don’t make any payments to the caller, whether it be by bank transfer, Bitcoin or through gift cards.
Delete and don’t open any suspicious texts, pop-up windows or click on links or attachments in emails
Stop interacting with them – you are giving them oxygen
