The One Thing You Should Not Have In A Password

At least once a week i will encounter someone who has lost access to their online account through a poor password and the one common mistake is that a word is visible which makes it easy to “break”. For example: eve20156 crows1997 crows1998 port2004 If you do not want to use a password manager you need to eliminate the word but as we all know it is hard for us to remember passwords so how do we make the above passwords just a bit better. 20E15ve6! 19Cr97ows# 19Cro98ws! 20Por!t04 Some slight changes have made these more secure but still able to be remembered. Also remember to turn on 2 factor authentication

Do You Know Your Date Of Birth ?

With online accounts you are required to fill in your date of birth , now many people decide to “cheat” and that is where you can encounter issues if you get locked out of your account. If you have to get back into your account and you cannot remember the date of birth you entered or you enter your “true ” date of birth , you will not gain access to that account. So my advice is , enter the true date of birth and turn on 2 factor authentication where you give your mobile phone number to the online account , then if someone tries to access your account you will receive a message but unless they have the code that is on your mobile , they will be unable to gain access. 2 factor authentication should be turned on for as many as you can but as a… Read More

Passwords – Do Not Share And Make Sure You Choose Wisely

Passwords are, for many , the weakest link in their security chain. Whether it is your online accounts , banking , or logging into your computer , your password needs to be good. Names that are visible should be avoided at all costs : for example –  richard2015 is a terrible password that will be broken very quickly. However 20Richa15rd is an improvement. Make sure you know your password , use a password manager such as Last Pass  If 2 factor authentication is available make sure you use it , something you know (your password) and something you have ( the code sent to your mobile phone number ). DO NOT SHARE your password – it is yours – many could learn from this Seinfeld Episode  “A strong password is your first line of defense against intruders and imposters. 2 Factor Authentication – Something You Know – Something You Have

Password issues abound with many on the most popular sites we use and visit but most can be fixed if people had turned on 2 Factor Authentication (2FA). 2 Factor Authentication means that you will give your mobile phone number to the company , then when you try to login or login from another computer , your mobile will receive a text with a code on it which you will need to login to the site along with your password.
