Are You Suffering From Gooligan ?

Do you have an Android phone running Android 4 (KitKat, Jellybean) or 5 (Lollipop) ? Then you maybe at risk of being hit by being hit by “Gooligan” – Android malware  “Gooligan” enters devices when Android users download apps from non-Google or Android authorised app stores when we all know they should get apps from the Google Play Store “Gooligan” had accessed 1.3 million Google accounts since August 2016 and continued to grow at a rate of 13,000 breaches a day, according to the Check Point article. Check Point has claimed the breach is potentially the biggest single theft of Google accounts on record. “The malware roots infected devices and steals authentication tokens that can be used to access data from Google Play, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Docs, G Suite, Google Drive, and more,” Check Point wrote in a blog post. It then forces the Google Account on your device to give fake reviews to apps and notch fake advertisement views. So how do you know if you have Gooligan ? Check Point have a tool on their page – Gooligan Checker  Also look at their article on Gooligan at Check Point which also lists apps that can infect your… Read More

Listen To The Radio With RadioApp

A great new app has been launched to listen to Australian Radio – RadioApp RadioApp is available for iOS – iPhone and Android  RadioApp also loads quickly with a great interface. You can swipe to listen to your radio stations by swiping right and can add all your favourites to a list. So why do i like this app? It just works , just add your favourite stations in , swipe right to go through your list ( just like a certain dating app I am told ) , add in new stations and it starts quickly. Remember it relies on streaming from the station which occasionally can go down. It is an intuitive app and that is a sign of a good app , simple to use and to get it to work exactly how you should think it should work , I don’t have to go through a ” do i want a free trial page ” to get to my stations , there are currently no ads ( unlike its opposition ). There is also a page that explains how little streaming radio actually uses in data ( 21.6MB per hour )  I showed the app to… Read More

So You Think Your Android Phone Has A Virus – What Can You Do ?

First of all you probably dont have a virus on your Android phone and what you’re seeing is an ad that tries to convince you that your Android device is infected and you need to download an app or you have dodgy pop-up. If it is a dodgy pop-up just look at clearing your cache. All Android viruses are delivered via apps installed on your device, so the best way to avoid it is to be very careful which apps you install and really never install software outside of the Google Play app store and by default your phone or tablet settings will be configured to prevent this , so do not alter this. Start your Android device in Safe ModeThis should prevent any third-party apps running, including any malware. With many devices can press the power button to access the power off options, then press and hold power off to bring up an option to restart in Safe mode or Google your device eg: How do i start the Galaxy S7 in safe mode ? Safe mode will be displayed then at the bottom left of the screen. Now look at your device by opening your Settings menu and… Read More

Android & Banking Malware – Things You Need To Know

Most of Australia’s major banks are being targeted by some potentially catastrophic malware on customers’ Android smartphones. This is another in a long list of recent attacks on the Android operating system Android/Spy.Agent.SI, as it’s been named, locks users’ phones when they open a banking app, redirecting them to a phishing server masquerading as the bank’s official site. Android/Spy.Agent.SI is targeting major banks in Australia. Westpac, Bendigo Bank, Commonwealth Bank, St. George Bank, National Australia Bank, Bankwest, Me Bank and ANZ Bank are all listed as under threat. The malware is distributed through infected apps, such as an update to Adobe Flash Player ( which is fake )which then ask for device administrator rights and are allowed access by unsuspecting users into nearly every corner of the Android operating system. From there, Android/Spy.Agent.SI can monitor a device’s phone number, text messages and IMEI data, and can act as a middleman to any banking apps already installed on the phone. When a banking app is launched, the malware locks any back or home buttons, preventing users from exiting the app until login details are entered — into the fake sign-in screen overlaid on top of the legitimate app itself. Any two-factor… Read More
