So What Is The Problem With Antivirus Software

  There is a problem with antivirus software and let me say especially the commercial products. Antivirus software lulls you into a false sense of security – consumers and businesses think that , if I install and have paid for an Antivirus product I will be protected and I can do whatever I want on my computer. This is wrong. Yes wrong. Antivirus products can and do have issues and are great at catching 6 month old issues , thats why they fail against stopping zero day infections in most cases and can cause issues with operating systems , including making them non-booting , slowing them down and breaking some aspects. The Correct Way To Uninstall Your Antivirus Software

So you have decided to change antivirus software on your computer or get rid of that awful trial version , here is what you should do. Remember you need to make sure you thoroughly remove your current anti virus on your computer. Your anti-virus solution can be uninstalled from the Programs section in your Control Panel however some remnants may remain so you should go to the manufacturers site and look for a removal tool which will remove all remnants of the software and that you should be aware that some antivirus solutions will not let you uninstall them now unless you use the removal tool. Check Your Antivirus For Updates To Keep You Protected

The past week saw an issue with Symantec and Norton antivirus users were they were exposed to a bad vulnerability that Google described as ” bad as it gets “. Google: Symantec antivirus flaws are ‘as bad as it gets’ The advise was to make sure you updated ” manually ” to make sure you are protected. However this again shows it is YOUR actions that count and stop relying on your antivirus to stay protected. I have also seen plenty of antivirus products stop working so make sure you manually check your antivirus to make sure it is updating and working. For Windows 10 users , windows will turn on Defender if your antivirus stops working or if your subscription has expired which is good to know.

Changing Your Antivirus – What To Do & What I Recommend

Beware Of Toolbars Being Installed In Internet Browsers

I recently had reason to update my Adobe Shockwave Player and when installing it asked whether I would like to install a Free Norton Security Scan.

My strong advise is , with all these additions to downloads that you can be offered , is to say NO.

Do not put the tick in that box.

There are many online virus scanners that will not intrude on your system and to install one with another piece of software is fraught with danger.

I have seen many systems with multiple toolbars installed on them , some examples are:

  • Ask
  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • My Search
  • Windows Live
  • Alexa
  • Ask Jeeves

My strong advice is don't install these toolbars , they will slow your system down and some toolbars are linked with rootkits and spyware ( not the one's listed above )
