Samsung Galaxy S5
I was at a Samsung Galaxy S5 presentation last night for telcos in Adelaide last night so I was able to see and use the new Samsung Galaxy S5
Thoughts And Points
- The screen will dim in the cinema as it is reactive to the light around it
- The phone is rated as IP67 – this means it offers complete protection from dust (6) and protection against temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m for 30 minutes – provided you have sealed it properly
- The phone has a kids mode with a pin to stop purchases and take you to children friendly apps and will show the amount of time your children have been playing with the phone
- If you have a Paypal account you can use your phone to pay for purchases with stores who have Paypal
- They have an arrangement with one bank ( Commonwealth & Westpac coming) for tap and go for purchases
- 16 Megapixel camera with selected focus , pick a point in the photo that you want to be in focus or have it all in focus
- Powersaving mode – turns phone screen to black and white – 10% battery will give 24 hours of calls
- The phone has a heart rate monitor , calorie counter –( not for clinical or medical use)
Who should update?
- Had your phone for 2 years , you will notice a difference – so Samsung S3 and S2 users could make the move and notice the difference
- Has less junky software than the S4
Is It A Good Phone
- Yes it is , feels better than the S4 , great screen , great camera , less of the unneccesary software that was on the S4
Subscription Software
- We are used to buying software outright not paying by the month or by the year but times are changing.
- Office 365 the full Microsoft suite costs $100 a year approximately and you can install it on 5 computers ( Windows and macs ) – always updated to the new version
- With multiple computers this can be more cost effective – same version on 1 computer $599
- Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom $10 a month
Windows Updates Tomorrow
- Tomorrow are the last updates for Windows XP and some major updates to Windows 8.1
Backup
You don’t have a copy of anything unless you have 3 copies
Some people have had software designed to run a part of their business but have no copy and rely on that nothing will happen to their computer.
