Reset Internet Explorer , It's Good For Windows

Internet Explorer is an integral part of Windows and if it has been altered it can affect Windows Update so it pays to reset Internet Explorer.

Resetting Internet Explorer will also stop unnecessary toolbars that you may have installed from loading.

These toolbars however you should really uninstall them , one's such as Ask , bitorrent toolbars , media player toolbars , horoscope toolbars etc

So what do you do

  1. Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
  2. Open the Control Panel , find and open Internet Options
  3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would also like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
  4. When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.

You can also do this through the Control Panel and Internet Options.

Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

Now run Windows Update again and you may see more Windows updates that were previously blocked because Internet Explorer was damaged.

Toolbar Cleaner For Removing Toolbars

Download Toolbar Cleaner

Toolbars and add-ons for browsers can impact upon the efficiency of Windows and the way it works with some preventing Windows Update from running.

Toolbar Cleaner is a lightweight piece of software that will remove toolbars from:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox

It is a small download at less than 1MB but make sure you remove the ticks from :

  • Protect my system with Anti-Phishing Domain Advisor
  • Set My Start Up as Homepage

Once installed it will scan and allow you to remove toolbars from your computer. and you can also stop programs running at startup.

Tablet Sales

If you still need further proof that tablet computers are growing in popularity lets look at some facts

Tablet sales grew in the last quarter July – Sept

  • 49% over last year
  • 6.7% over the last quarter Apr – June

And 27.8 million tablets sold worldwide

The 2 big players are Apple at 50% of the sales and Samsung at 18%

Apple sales dipped in that quarter but the iPad mini sales and the iPad sales in the first 3 days of their release ( 3 million ) will probably see there market share rise , however it is the Microsoft Surface sales that a lot will be interested in.

Halo 4 , Call Of Duty

Halo 4 is out today and call Of Duty will be out next week , if you are buying any of these games as a present at Christmas time make sure you buy the correct one

Internet Explorer

IE is an integral part of Windows and the way it works , if you have filled it with toolbars that are basically malware then Windows Update will not function correctly.

So what do you do ?

Uninstall the toolbars first , try the free version ( not the paid version of Geek Uninstaller ) and use the " Force Removal Mode " which gets rid of registry entries.

Then reset internet Explorer

Then try Windows Update again , you may have to run a Microsoft Fixit if things do not work

Be Careful What You Click When Installing Software

It is imperative that you read what you click on the computer , especially if you are installing software.

I recently had to reinstall Foxit Reader on a computer when the following screen was shown as part of the installation process.

Ask toolbar
The boxes were all ticked as you can see.

Well I did not want any of that and neither should you , so un-click all of them.

E bay
Then on the final screen was another E Bay install icon as part of the installation process.

If you are installing the Adobe Reader you will be asked if you want to install a McAfee add in.

Adobe , McAfee
Just remove the tick and proceed , as you do not need this as part of your installation of Adobe Reader

Just because the screens appear does not mean you have to accept the installation of the additional software and the problems that will come with installing these on your system , installing without these is the desirable outcome.

It's just like signing a contract , read the fine print before you commit because the consequences may come back to haunt you in the form of toolbars appearing.

Beware Of Toolbars Being Installed In Internet Browsers

I recently had reason to update my Adobe Shockwave Player and when installing it asked whether I would like to install a Free Norton Security Scan.

My strong advise is , with all these additions to downloads that you can be offered , is to say NO.

Do not put the tick in that box.
There are many online virus scanners that will not intrude on your system and to install one with another piece of software is fraught with danger.

Now for toolbars

I have seen many systems with multiple toolbars installed on them , some examples are:

  • Ask
  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • My Search
  • Windows Live
  • Alexa
  • Ask Jeeves
  • Alot
  • Utorrent

My strong advice is don't install these toolbars , they will slow your system down and some toolbars are linked with rootkits and spyware ( not the one's listed above )
