Customer data allegedly stolen from health insurer Medibank Private has been posted to the dark web by as we understand Russian hackers after the company rightfully refused to pay a ransom.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Customers need to remain vigilant as their data may be published online and the hackers may attempt to contact them directly.
You should replace your Medicare card, which can be done online through MyGov.
It’s important to secure devices and monitor both devices and accounts for “unusual activity”, making sure all the latest security updates have been installed.
Be alert for phishing scams via phone, post or email and ensure that you verify any communication to ensure it is legitimate.
It is also vital that customers avoid opening texts from unknown or suspicious numbers.
It is essential that customers change their passwords and activate multi-factor authentication on online accounts.
